Spring comes early in Cornwall
Hello m' chirpy cheeps,
As usually happens after a half-term holiday, I've been busy with so many adventures with the children, I don't know where to start. For today's post I shall keep it simple with some pictures of the mid-February garden and a little cuppa update. This is the place that calms and grounds me after an exciting week...
It really is a beautiful time of year. The mornings are filled with bird song and cups of tea. As the sun rises more and more daffodils and crocus emerge from the spongy, damp earth. Four out of my five Camellias are now in full bloom.
Tulips emerging beneath the hurdle over apple tree -
The mid level path has been refreshed with new wood chip.
The wood chip bags had been sat for a while under the chopped down holly tree. Look at this interesting fungi that I found lurking in one bag -
Thankfully I've managed to complete all the hedge trimming. I can tell the amorous birds have already started eyeballing them for nests -
The mutant buddleja will need hard cutting back though -
Here's a raw video update taken this morning -
I have other adventures to share, but they shall have to wait. I have been suffering from eye strain. I'm having my eyes tested on Wednesday, so screen time has been limited to little snippets.
I hope you are well. Please send gossip.
Lulu xXx
Thank you for visiting!

Dear Lulu
ReplyDeleteIt's all looking exciting in your garden. Your camellias are looking particularly spectacular. Mine are flowering too, but are restricted by being in pots.
I hope you get some help with your eyes - I have to have varifocal glasses now but they have made such a difference.
Have a good gardening week.
Best wishes
Ellie
Thanks Ellie :) I may be getting some 'Deidre Barlows' (i.e. very large glasses). Happy gardening xXx
DeleteI love this time of year too - so full of promise (and colour). Camelia flowers are just exquisite aren't they and your skirt trimmed lady is very pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm no church goer, but I do love to hear the bells ringing. I imagine your neighbouring church provides a perfect weekend wake-up call should you need one.
Good luck with the eye test. xxx
Thanks Claire :) Amazing to think the pink lady was in a small pot when I got her a few years ago from the carbooty! I know when I've slept in if I hear the bells... xXx
DeleteThank you for the tour of your gorgeous garden, Lulu! It is an exciting time of year, isn't it? I'm ever so envious of your lovely Camellias, which unfortunately I don't have space for in my handkerchief sized plot. Keeping my fingers crossed for your eye test! xxx
ReplyDeleteThanks Ann, very exciting season indeed! I inherited three of the Camellias and the others are carbooty finds xXX
Deletethe camelias flowers are out here too - in the glasshouses!
ReplyDeletefor all the rest of the colourful bunch we have to wait until april...... meanwhile i do enjoy long mizzle´s beauty and neatness.
here the front garden perennials bed is very in need of a good chop - but I have to take care of myself i few days more at the moment..... but snowdrops and "winterlinge" are blooming already!
best wishes for your eyes!!
xxxxx
Ah the giant glass house! Thanks Beate, I'm sure the neatness shan't last too long though. Popping over soon to see how you are ... xXx
DeleteYour spring is much earlier than here, and beautiful to see. Xx
ReplyDeleteThanks Jules, great to hear from you :) xXx
DeleteLovely to see your garden & the video tour. My Camelia has lots of tight buds but won't be in flower for at least another month. Our new puppy, Popcorn, is at the vets today being castrated so I'm a bit worried. It's always a worrying time when they have a full anaesthetic.
ReplyDeleteOh I love the name for your new puppy David! Fingers crossed Popcorn's op went well & pooch isn't too sore. My camellias all flower at different times, Twixmas being the earliest xXx
DeleteIt's all looking very pretty chuck. Your camellia are way ahead of mine. My red camellia is still tight buds.
ReplyDeleteThanks cocker! My red camellia always flowers later. Having given it a severe trim over winter though, it doesn't have nearly as many buds as it usually does xXx
DeleteHow wonderful to see the early Spring in your garden - always uplifting to see colours this time of year. I seem to be a little behind you, our camellia, (toby's Bush) only one flower at the moment but lots of buds. Good wishes.
ReplyDeleteI think yesterday was the springiest day yet Mike! Super lovely time of year. Good to hear Toby's bush is still doing well :) xXx
DeleteLook at all that wonderful colour! Your garden looks so lovely. Mine is not ready to waken just yet, still a little cold here, frosts are still very much on the menu.
ReplyDeleteThank you SM :) The frost has returned these past few nights here, but nothing too extreme and the days have been beautifully sunny :) xXx
DeleteI am on a blog catch up - life seems to have just got in the way! Your spring is most definitely earlier than ours and I have just heard we are due for another drop in the temperature (great....) I have decided to declare out loud that I have had enough of winter and where the hell is summer (or at least spring!!)
ReplyDeleteOh I know the feeling! Life has become busy again. I'm hoping to treat myself to a blog catch up this weekend. We've been getting frosty mornings this week again. I'm doing the actions of shooing the cold away for you :) xXx
