Trunky bits

Image
Hello m' trunky dunkies, Time for a quick bloggy? After an early morning sea swim (yes I am now one of those holier than thou 'wild swimming' converts!), I felt all energized, so decided to tackle the scraggly vege bed that has lay soggy and storm ravaged all winter.  My first bit of gardening this year... Before - After - Fruit & vege wise, I hope to be growing more perennials this year.  There are two main reasons for this: an increasing shortage of time and water.     The tulip bulbs were finally planted in the blue tubs. This is usually something I try to do in November. From the slim picking dregs in the garden centre: Parrot prince, Hugs & Kisses, Copper Image   Very colour coordinated darling. My laundry pile simply can't wait. The elephant is on the move, looking for its own special watering hole.  Time to stop for a cup of tea and to admire the camilias. My hard trim last spring seems to have encouraged proliferous proliferations. Sin...

Ways to fly and dry

Image
Hello m' pink flying goblets, I'm sat here typing away on the ol' laptop, bottle of Lidl's cheap Buck Piss cracked open. The washing's in and it's just started mizzling. Five gangly necked swans have just flown past the the window. They are currently circling round once more before they attempt a jet ski propelled, belly flop landing in the creek.   I'd better get the tea on soon, so just a short post for today.  Some purple sprouting brocolli has been freshly picked from the vege patch. They will be lightly steamed and smothered in butter. I added some pink primrose flowers too, to try and create the illusion of  being 'reet sophisticated'. Did you know they are edible?! The little pot of yellow primroses will be placed on my bedside tea trolly. They smell like sweet honey. My sister in law kindly gave me the bamboo trellis. I shall have to find good use for it. It has been a wonderfully dry week, prefect for catching up on mountains of washing. Ea...

Staying shady

Image
Hello m' slim shadies, After a two day heatwave shattered UK records, my trusty Glass Storm Barometer warned me that a storm was imminent. The next morning I woke to a drastic drop in temperature, thunder and lightening. Climate change has officially arrived, just as the scientists said it would all those years ago. Sadly environmental scientists don't rule the world, knobbers do.  Above left - barometer in fine weather | Above right - rapid ascension of blue liquid in snozzle means approaching storm (see monkey blog post here for more detail). If it pees, batten the hatches! Below: Down by the morning cool, Penryn Marina  Whilst the holiday makers were rollicking in the sun on the beach, I was crunching on ice cubes, taking shade where I could. Obviously all the parasols had sold out, so a little improvisation was required for the top patio -    Approaching storm after the heat -  Very little gardening happened during the heat . Contrary to what Monsieur...

Happy Potting Space

Image
Hello m' happy potters, As promised here are the results of Long Mizzle's bank holiday weekend transformations. Before the overlap fence was dull, tired and grey. Here it is with a 'before' applied 'sad filter' (just like they do on makeover programmes on t' tele eh). Now it is 'sage green', revitalized and ready for the fig tree to be trained along it, and for me to dance around in my best summer gaudy dress.  Although not quite the colour I was expecting, it certainly makes the patio tulips jump out - Quite accidentally, it also it picks up the colour of one of the houseboat roofs over in the creek -     I had exciting news last Sunday. My dad called to say he'd made me a potting bench and could he deliver it that afternoon.  Of course I said "YES PLEASE". It's made from old bed slats and spare bits of wood for legs. Mam painted it with teak oil and it smells gorgeous. Isn't it great!? We all had a cuppa in the garden and Ma...
