A day trip 'abroad'

Image
Hello m' seafaring saints, The girls were desperate for a summer holiday adventure. One morning at breakfast I said -  "Right, we're going abroad! Pack your rucksacks." We promptly headed down to Falmouth's Prince of Wales pier & hopped on the 10:30 yellow ferry *. This took us across Falmouth bay and twenty minutes later we arrived at St Mawes harbour. The littlest one did actually believe we were in France. If only going abroad was that effortless & cheap!  * £10 adult return/ children go free on this one.   After a walk up and down by the immaculately painted seafront houses and a peek in the church hall charity sale, manned by the plumiest (we're talking King Charles' Camilla here) but loveliest two ladies, it was time for an early lunch at the harbour bakery.  "Why is everyone so friendly here?" the girls asked. We sat eating our pasties, watching the paddle boarders, sail school kids and daft swimming dogs. Then onward to my ulter...

Singing to the Seedlings

Image
Hello m' shiny orbs, See here -  https://youtube.com/shorts/K3ohA8jAaR4?feature=share    Do you sing to your seedlings? I do, whether the like it or not. I did audition for a part in the choir singing 'Zadok the Priest' at the weekend's Coronation. I even had the right getup - teapot for orb, soup ladle for sceptre . I stole my youngest daughter's crown. Strangely I didn't get a part, but I thought I'd share my beautiful singing anyhow. The neighbours are treated daily to this mock operaticness reverberating from my bathroom. Just like Jimi Hendrix, that's my preferred practice space. So I might not be here next weekend. Monsieur thinks I'll be locked up in the castle for treason. I'll just argue that a fortnight of Covid plus cabin fever have altered my normally perfect state of mind. I also suspect the music used in the clip will flag a You Tube copyright strike, but we shall see.  I shall leave you with some lovely pictures of my convalescence...

A bit munchy

Image
Hello m' crunchy daylilies, What a scorcher it has been today! Naturally, I have been looking for things to cool me down, this time in the form of fresh salads. FOODIE W*NK*R ALERT: I made a video in the garden this morning - munching at some crazy edibles. Who'd have thought the daylilies that grow like weeds in my garden were edible?! [Just be sure they are indeed Daylilies (Hemorocallis fuva) and not Tiger lilies (Lilium lancifolium)!!! Plus in large quantities, Daylilies are said to be hallucanagenic ] In the background - edible cannas and nasturtiums -   Cooking is not my favourite pursuit really,  but I am always on the look out for ways to bring the cost of the weekly food shop down. I made a big monster pot of rustic curry using shop brought red lentils (cheap!), carrots, together with homegrown garlic, turnips and spring onions. Ol' Glass Eyed Mumrah makes a lovely panfried flat bread, 50% flour, 50% natural yogurt - lovely to scoop the curry up. I am still havi...

Less nattering, more car booty

Image
Hello m' fabulous flippers, Joy of joys, the car boot sales are back on. The spring blossom is blooming. It's a long bank holiday weekend - meaning lots of time to catch up on garden jobs and tea drinking. Just a short bloggymacjig today. If my old Geography teacher is reading - yes I can zip it - but no, one can never run out of things to natter about...one simply saves them for another day!   One of the weirdest things I have ever spotted at a car boot sale -    Of course it was just asking for a certain je ne sais quoi -  I always wanted to be Daryl Hannah in Splash, with 80s crimped hair and my very own Tom Hanks. Turns out the lovely lass selling this was a real life mermaid - she makes the tails herself and swims in the sea or giant fish tanks with them. She said 'mermaid abs' are a thing! See here for some nicer pictures not involving my bonce -  The Cornish Mermaid  I shall leave you with a little video made early this morning, with the gard...
