Cuppa tour - Soggy July morning

Image
Hello m' soggy bottoms, I've been up since 'arse o'crack' this morning, walking round the soggy garden. If you have a hot cuppa, you are most welcome to join me. I filmed a short video whilst the mad house was still soundly sleeping. That's why I am whispering.... I didn't want to wake them! It is important to grab little snippets of peace when you can.  Next time I will endeavour to achieve a better sound quality. But as Monsieur often says, there's not point going in full pelt like Michael Bolton in 'When a Man Loves a Woman'... as there's no where you can go from there. Above: Dill Mammoth Below: Fennel   The succulents won't be liking all this rain but they do look pretty with big rain drops on them...       Above: Echivera in flower   At this time of the year in and around Falmouth, the lovely sweaty students are on the move and lots of 'free' boxes full of kitchen utensils and vessels can be found on the streets. Here's...

Quick cuppa tour: Early June

Image
Hello m' ospreys,   Just a quickie this week - I'm in the midst of revising for my next round of RHS exams - attempting to learn endless lists of latin names and garden design principles. That doesn't mean we can't have a nice cuppa and biscuit break though does it!?!  Let's go... After all the scorching sun, the garden has had a bit of welcome mizzle these past couple of days. It bothers me not. In fact, mizzle is my favourite weather to garden in... and sit drinking coffee. The neighbours must think I'm a right weirdo, what with that and Nude Day (the first Monday of every month). The Confedgery is limbering up.... (that's an invented cross between a fence and hacked down conifer hedge...  absolutely nothing to do with the Confederacy) It must have sensed the arrival of the US president and other world leaders for the G7 summit. The skies of Cornwall have been alive with Osprey helicopters, flying in close formation. There's currently a big naval pr...

Quick cuppa tour: Early May

Image
Hello m' early Mays, Got your cuppa? and some dunking biscuits?  Let's go..... What a glorious day it has been. The air chill has eased. Most of the greenhouse plants have been allowed out for an early weekend outing. Here they all being boisterous in the sun, out on the picnic table -    The Dahlias think they're all grown up now and have been spending every night out.   The Cannas, that I divided back here , are still in the greenhouse but are coming along nicely.     Back outside the Granny's Bonnets (Aquilegia 'Nora Barlow') are just beginning to pop out,  just like all the grannies around Falmouth town, now they've had their two jabs -   The flowers really would make a great real life hat. The Californian Poppies and Calendulas are back (Eschscolzia california) - It is my humble opinion that one can never have enough sea thrift -  The Pansies pretended to die, but have dramatically returned.  Shame they are a little late ...

What's a growing this dry April?

Image
Hello m' dry Aprils, How are you doing? I shall keep my Long Mizzle correspondence relatively short and sweet this week. Less talking, more cuppa drinking, that's the way. I am worryingly behind on cuppa drinking and biscuit dunking. So have you got your cuppa? Brill. Let's see how the garden's growing today -  Forget-me-nots, 'Spring Green' tulips and apple blossom   Tree Echium Flowers Photinia 'Red Robin' in flower Forget-me-nots and Fennel Narcissus 'Rose of May' - beautifully scented! 'Green Wave' Parrot' Tulip Narcissus 'Smooth Sails' Last Friday I received a cardboard box through the post from Halls of Heddon, filled with little dahlia plugs. I loved the way they were wrapped in paper and sphagnum moss, as opposed to nasty plastic. The next day I potted them up and popped them on a window ledge. All of them perked up pretty quickly. Later on today, they will be graduating to the greenhouse.   What of the dahlia tubers ...
