A trail of nature and Brunel's relics

Hello m' early springy pops,   In a momentary lull of rain this week, a couple of garden tasks were tackled (full details in next post). This, in addition to an epic welly walk, has ensured we've had a good dose of fresh air and vitamin D. Making the most of our once-daily-allowed-exercise-outing, we picked a sunny afternoon to follow  Penryn's Nature Trail . It is an absolute gem of a walk and we had tremendous fun, even if we did get caught in a couple of hailstone storms.  The start of the trail is best experienced by finding the hidden 'ope' (narrow alleyway) between two historic Penryn town houses on St Thomas Street. Lovely as it is, we cheated and skipped this section by joining the trail from behind the Methodist church.    At this time of year wellies are essential, and even then the eldest sprog managed to get a boot stuck in the mud, and landed sock down whilst we cackled with laughter. Luckily I always carry spare socks, pants & leggings...

Heart shaped fungi

Hello m' hearties, As I sat here tonight, half watching Neighbours (my guilty pleasure), the ridiculous story line, involving questionable fungi, reminded me I had better do my weekly correspondence. It has been a long, exhausting week, full of work and homeschooling, so please forgive me if I simply bombard you with pictures and nonsense. I aim on having a proper blog reading catch up this weekend. Last weekend I jinxed the weather by saying out loud I hoped the sun would stick around. It rained solid all weekend. There was nothing to be done, but sit indoors with the artificial lights on, and get the watercolour paints out for Round 2.  Sketch done, paint mixed and ready to go! I am slowly discovering that preparation is the key. More water, less paint, more tea, less biscuits... The trick I am told is knowing when to stop. Quick, lock it away before I royally mess it up! A second attempt at the Moth Orchid. "Loosey goosey, loosey goosey" as the old Taekwondo Seinsei  s...

The early bird

Hello m' pickles! What a week! I'm sure you've heard all about it. For us here at Long Mizzle, England Lockdown #3 means back to homeschooling (or 'School of Rock' as we like to call it) whilst working from home until at least mid-February. Our amazing NHS and key workers, frazzled from 2020, are continuing to work selflessly under extraordinary circumstances. Last Sunday, the day before the lock down announcement, we left behind a slightly frosty Long Mizzle and headed to a rather grander patch of land - Trellisick Estate, located near Truro and owned by the National Trust. If I'd taken a proper photo of the house itself, you may have recognised it from the BBC Antiques Roadshow!   Monsieur's not interested in grand estates and chose to stay at home with his guitars and coffee. I had previously booked the parking online (earliest slot available). We had intended to pay the additional fee to allow us access to the gardens, but we got completely carried away ...
