Goodbye exams, hold on February!

Image
Hold on February, I forgot to say hello! Camellia morning over Long Mizzle. Please cue the confetti cannons as I saunter in to the room nonchalantly in my silk housecoat... arms stretched out in a operatic way...THE EXAMS ARE OVER! I sat my last two RHS horticulture theory exams during the week at Duchy College Rosewarne. That's eight exams done and dusted, and I don't want to see another one any time soon! Time to be a lady of leisure, even just for one day. After a night of binge watching 'Canal Boat Diaries', along with copious amounts of tea, I bundled the kids off to school the next morning and waited for my folks to pick me up en route to Redruth town and Portreath for lunch. * Canal Boat Diaries on BBC iPlayer: Recommended for lovers of canal boats, locks, impossibly low and long tunnels, viaducts, aqueducts, Midland and industrial North adventures * Above: 'Tinners Hounds' made from boots found at Geevor Mine, by artist David Kemp.  Hello m' ginger snaps,  It may look like I'm moving house, with all the boxes and tissue wrap...but I'm not! The local weather man warned us storm Arwen would bash the UK's South West coast, and it duly arrived on time on Friday night. Below are cups and saucers from Royal Albert Bone China (1977) Provincial Flowers series.  They illustrate - Left:  'Mountain Avens' (Dryas Octopetala), arctic alpine flower Right:  'Lady's Slipper (Cyprpedium reginae), said to be the rarest orchid in Britain.  *I can report t...

And at once I knew, I was not magnificent

Hello m' starry blossoms, Got your cuppa ready for some semi-garden related ramblings? Warning: I do natter about two movies released almost thirty years ago in this post, but I've tried not to do any spoilers (I refuse to discuss movies with my dear brother, as he just can't help doing spoilers!). Sometimes, when scenes are so vast, solace can be found in feeling small again. The stars in the night sky do not care for my leaky guttering, or shit hair day, yet their ancient celestial song is sweet and comforting. Mountains know themselves to be magnificent. Our mundane matters are not.                                                                         ...
